With historic and modern locomotives on display, visitors will enjoy test track rides and narrow-gauge railway experiences. Organizers anticipate around 30,000 attendees celebrating the Stockton and Darlington Railway’s opening on September 27, 1825.

Alstom’s Europe Region President, Gian Luca Erbacci, emphasized the event’s role in uniting people and inspiring sustainable transport innovation. He believes reflection on past achievements will motivate future generations to push engineering boundaries.

Music icon and railway enthusiast Pete Waterman attended the launch event on January 30. He will also participate in August, contributing to the model railway village and sharing his passion for train heritage.

Railway 200 highlights the railway’s impact on families during difficult times, including wartime struggles and economic challenges. Waterman stated that celebrating railway heritage means acknowledging the resilience and unity of the railway community.

Historic locomotives from various eras, including steam, diesel, and electric models, were featured at the launch event. Displays included LNER Class A4 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley, built in 1937, and GBRf’s 69004.

Avanti West Coast paid tribute to Railway 200 by renaming a Class 390 Pendolino, previously numbered 390016, to ‘Railway 200.’ This symbolic renaming honors the railway’s long-standing contribution to transport.

Tickets are available for purchase through the Greatest Gathering website, offering multiple pricing options. Adult tickets cost £30, child tickets (ages five to 15) are £15, and family packages are priced at £65.

All ticket sale proceeds will support Railway 200’s selected charities, including Alzheimer’s Research UK and the Railway Benefit Fund. These funds will aid railway workers, their families, and heritage preservation projects.
