On September 28, 2023, passenger services commenced on China’s first intercontinental high-speed rail line, the Fuzhou–Xiamen–Zhangzhou (FXZ) high-speed rail line, located in the Fujian province in the southeast of China, designed for speeds of up to 350 km/h., as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.

These high-speed trains run along the western coast of the Taiwan Strait.

According to the China Railway Nanchang Group, during the initial phase, they will operate 16 daily trips.

The trial operation of the line took place starting from August 31, 2023.

The intercontinental high-speed rail line, spanning over 277 km with eight stations, crosses three bays on bridges with a total length of 19.9 km.

Construction faced complex geological conditions, as the overland segments of the track primarily traverse mountainous terrain in areas with seismic activity.

The first high-speed train, G9801 of the Fuxing family, carrying 543 passengers, departed from Fuzhou, the provincial capital, at 9:15 a.m. and arrived in the port city of Xiamen, a major economic and tourist center of the province, at 10:16 a.m.

Previously, the journey from Fuzhou to Xiamen took 1 hour and 20 minutes.

It is expected that the new intercontinental high-speed rail line will contribute to the economic development and tourism industry of the Fujian province.
