The Arterio electric train is now part of London’s suburban network, operated by South Western Railway, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The Alstom series 701 train, ordered in a quantity of 90, is powered by a 750 V direct current through a third rail.
The initial trains are now in service on the London-Waterloo to Windsor route four days a week.
The plan is to introduce all 90 trains by 2024, with an expansion of routes in the southwest direction.
Key features of the trains include a 2+2 seating arrangement, spacious inter-carriage passages, and bioreactors in the restrooms.
This marks the first implementation of such technologies in the United Kingdom.
The production contract with Bombardier was signed in 2017, and financing is facilitated by the leasing company Rock Rail and its partners.
