Although the route is fully electrified from Santiago to Chillan, the presence of diesel traction ensures reliability in case of power system failures.

The diesel range reaches up to 1000 km, and these new trains can reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h, accommodating 236 passengers.

The efficiency and reliability of the new system are endorsed by the order from Chile’s national carrier, EFE, which acquired 6 four-car diesel-electric trains from CRRC Sifang Co in late 2021.

Since their commercial operation began in July 2023, they have demonstrated high performance on the route.

It’s also noteworthy that CRRC Sifang Co won a significant tender in August 2023 to supply 32 new electric trains for EFE, reaffirming its leading role in innovative solutions for railway transportation.

The total contract value amounted to an impressive $171 million, emphasizing the significance of this step in the development of modern infrastructure in Chile.
