The 446 km corridor will be reconstructed with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which will provide a credit of 23 million euros.

The financial resources will be allocated in two tranches of 12 million and 11 million euros, respectively, and will be used to replace sleepers, rails, and ballast on critical sections.

“The project’s implementation will enhance railway safety, increase the speed of passenger and freight trains, and contribute to reducing train turnover times,” the department predicted.

As previously reported, the EU and EBRD are investing 43 million euros in the modernization of the railway in Moldova.
