Ukrzaliznytsia is actively working on finalizing the ‘Law on Railway Transport,’ which is essential for further integration into the EU, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.

The draft law on railway transport in Ukraine is nearing its final stage.

This was announced by the Director of International Representation at Ukrzaliznytsia, Alexandra Vasylenko.

“The draft law is already in its final stages and is being worked on in collaboration with the relevant committee. The next step is the law’s adoption, and then the question of unbundling,” stated Alexandra Vasylenko.

Regarding the unbundling procedure, Vasylenko noted that there are certain ‘aspects’ to consider in the company’s restructuring, as Ukrzaliznytsia’s operating model differs from the European one.

“Currently, the European model is oriented towards the Deutsche Bahn model. Therefore, we are actively working with partners in Brussels to ensure that unbundling is as efficient as possible to maintain the company’s high performance and meet all European requirements for access to the railway market,” clarified Vasylenko.

It’s worth noting that the ‘Law on Railway Transport’ is also needed for the implementation of private traction. More details on this can be found in an interview with Daria Sichkar, a manager at the European Business Association’s Logistics Committee.

As a reminder, Alexandra Vasylenko previously stated that Ukrzaliznytsia is considering the procurement of locomotives from the Czech Republic, the United States, and France.
