The 303 km railway line will connect Abu Dhabi with the port city of Sohar in Oman, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

According to the new contract, the railway will be built by a consortium consisting of the German railway signaling and rolling stock manufacturer Siemens Mobility and its local partner Hassan Allam Construction.

Oman’s Etihad Rail is a joint venture owned by the governments of Oman and the United Arab Emirates, tasked with implementing the East-West railway project from Abu Dhabi to Sohar.

The 303 km line is part of a broader project to connect members of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The Siemens Mobility and Hassan Allam Construction consortium will handle the design, construction, and integration of signaling, telecommunications, and power supply systems, including ETCS Level 2, for the first line of the network project.

The line, also known as Hafeet Rail, will connect the Omani port city of Sohar with the UAE’s national railway network, which already links the seven emirates comprising the UAE.
