The completion of the Chuo Shinkansen construction has been postponed until 2034
06.05.2024
Central Japan Railway announced at the end of March that it no longer plans to start operating high-speed trains on the Chuo Shinkansen route between Tokyo and Nagoya in 2027, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Speaking after a meeting on March 29 at the Ministry of Transport, JR Central President Shunsuke Niwa stated, ‘We cannot forecast a new opening date,’ but promised, ‘We will do everything possible to launch it as soon as possible.’ The JR Central president noted, ‘Unfortunately, the situation does not allow us to start work in Nagoya in 2027… Furthermore, we cannot estimate new start dates because we have no idea when we can begin tunnel construction in Shizuoka Prefecture.’
It is expected that tunnel construction and equipment installation will take at least 10 years.
The announcement of the project implementation delay followed the refusal of the Shizuoka Prefecture government to allow work to begin in the prefecture due to concerns that the construction of the nearly 9-kilometer tunnel in this area would affect the volume of water in the Oi River.
