Proposed Route Details by TfL

The SL12 route would be the first Superloop bus to serve Havering, addressing previous concerns about the borough’s exclusion from the network. Mayor Sadiq Khan has committed to expanding the Superloop network with ten new routes, including SL12.

Havering Council leader Ray Morgon supports the initiative, emphasizing the need for improved north-south connectivity. He encourages residents to participate in the consultation to help shape this much-needed rapid bus route.

The proposed SL12 service would operate daily from 5 a.m. to half past midnight. Buses would run every 12 minutes during weekdays and Saturdays, with a 15-minute frequency in the evenings, on Sundays, and early weekday mornings.

In addition to connecting local Tube and railway stations, SL12 would stop at King George Hospital in Goodmayes, East Road in Chadwell Heath, and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. After stopping in Rainham’s town center, the route would terminate at the Ferry Lane Industrial Estate on the Thames, a location previously unserved by buses. TfL believes this extension will support local businesses and employees.

Geoff Hobbs, TfL’s director of public transport service planning, highlights the demand for express bus services in outer London. He notes that affordable and sustainable public transport is essential for connecting communities across the capital. TfL plans to collaborate with borough authorities to ensure the new route meets local needs.

For the Gants Hill terminus, TfL proposes locating the bus stop on Perth Road, which may require changes to the existing road layout. Officials plan to discuss potential modifications with the London Borough of Redbridge.

The public consultation is open until Friday, May 23. Londoners can provide feedback on the proposed route by visiting TfL’s official consultation page.
