Telangana to Receive Rs 80,000 Crore for Rail Development
24.05.2025
Telangana has secured Rs 80,000 crore in central government funding to modernize its railway infrastructure, enhance capacity, and drive sustainable connectivity across the state. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Telangana Rail Projects Mark Record-Level Investment
The Centre’s allocation of Rs 80,000 crore marks one of Indian Railways’ largest investments in a single state. This financial commitment supports electrification, new rail lines, and station modernization.

Out of the total, Rs 42,000 crore is already being used for active projects. Authorities have completed 346 kilometers of new track, addressing long-standing infrastructure gaps in Telangana’s railway network.
This year, three revamped stations—Begumpet, Warangal, and Karimnagar—were virtually inaugurated under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme. The program targets 1,300 stations across India for upgrades in design, capacity, and environmental sustainability.
Begumpet’s redevelopment incorporates architectural elements inspired by the Kakatiya dynasty, blending regional heritage with modern engineering. These stations aim to handle rising demand over the next three to four decades.
Telangana Pushes Ahead with Green Rail Vision
Secunderabad station is undergoing a full transformation, with Rs 720 crore allocated for reconstruction. Historic stations like Nampally and Kacheguda are also being upgraded under this initiative.
To fast-track development, the Centre has initiated MMTS Phase-2 in Hyderabad without awaiting state approvals. This expansion will enhance suburban rail services and reduce road congestion through low-emission alternatives.
An extension of MMTS Phase-2 to Yadadri is under consideration to serve pilgrims and daily commuters. In addition to Telangana’s 40 Amrit Bharat stations, 119 more across the South Central Railway zone will see redevelopment.
Officials plan to complete all major works by the end of next year. These projects represent a broader vision—one focused on sustainable growth, regional equity, and future-ready rail systems.
The Telangana rail transformation is more than infrastructure—it’s a strategic model for inclusive, climate-conscious urban development.
