11.06.2024
Switzerland continues its support for Ukraine in restoring its railway infrastructure, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

A new agreement, signed between the governments of the two countries, provides for an additional allocation of 10 million Swiss francs for these purposes.

This step is aimed at restoring transportation corridors, especially those linking Ukraine with European Union countries, as well as developing ports and the Trans-European Transport Network.
The main goal of the new agreement is to supply rail fastenings for the restoration of railway infrastructure from 2024 to 2025.
The priority is given to routes that play a key role in international transportation and trade, such as routes leading to ports and TEN-T.
Among the planned works are the restoration of sections of main routes, such as Kyiv-Zhmerynka-Podvolochysk-Lviv, Zhmerynka-Vapnyarka-Odesa, Kyiv-Hrebinka-Krasnohrad-Lozova, Lviv-Uzhhorod, and others.
The Ukrainian railway company “Ukrzaliznytsia” plans to use the provided rail fastenings to restore 230 kilometers of railway infrastructure, which will increase the speed and capacity of the transportation system.
This is already the second agreement between Switzerland and Ukraine in this area.
The first was signed in December 2022 and provided funding of up to 14 million Swiss francs for the purchase of rail fastenings from Schwihag AG.
These fastenings have already been used to restore and improve key railway routes in Ukraine.
These investments will not only help Ukraine restore its railway network but also contribute to strengthening economic ties and integration into international transportation networks.
