Sweco has won a contract to design a tram line in Turku

Sweco has been awarded a contract to provide design services for the first tram line in the city of Turku, Finland, including designing 19 stops, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The contract is worth 6 million euros.
The first phase of the Turku tram line project includes building 12 km and 19 stops from the harbor through the city center to the Varissuo district.

The tram depot will be planned in Iso-Heikkilä at the end of Kirtotahdentie street.
The development phase will begin in April 2024, and construction is estimated to take place from 2026 to 2031.
Passenger traffic is expected to start in the early 2030s.
The total cost of the project will exceed 344 million euros, including equipment and machinery worth 42 million euros.
