In particular, the rail operator Metrans, a subsidiary of the port owner, reported that the situation at the terminals continues to deteriorate, with cargo processing delays now exceeding 24 hours.

The issues are being exacerbated by strikes from port workers, which began in late August in response to corporate restructuring and efforts to preserve jobs.

Strikes at the Port of Hamburg have become a regular occurrence.

For example, in June, employees demanded improved wage conditions, which also impacted the operation of railway infrastructure.

The summer months were marked by disruptions, reducing the throughput capacity of rail transport around the port.

Metrans notes that trains can only operate in exceptional cases, significantly affecting logistics.

The company sees no prospects for a quick resolution to the issue. Moreover, the operator warns that the existing infrastructure is not prepared to handle such abrupt changes in transport flows.

In the future, this may lead to additional transportation costs that can no longer be compensated.

It is clear that the Port of Hamburg, despite stable financial performance and cargo handling volumes, is facing serious challenges due to strikes and infrastructure problems.

Amidst all this, rail transport remains under threat, and participants in the logistics chains are forced to seek temporary solutions to minimize losses.
