These upgrades are now available at Cleethorpes, Dewsbury, Grimsby, and several other locations. Travelers at Huddersfield, Hull, Malton, and Manchester Airport can also benefit from these enhanced facilities.

Additional stations, including Northallerton, Scarborough, Scunthorpe, Selby, Stalybridge, Thirsk, and Thornaby, now feature upgraded disposal units. These improvements reflect TPE’s commitment to accessibility across its railway network.

A stoma is a surgically created opening in the abdomen that allows waste to exit the body. Individuals with bowel conditions often require stoma bags to manage their daily needs effectively.

Why Stoma-changing Facilities Matter for Passengers?

Colostomy UK estimates over 200,000 people in the UK currently live with a stoma. Many individuals undergo this procedure due to bowel cancer, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, or incontinence.

To improve accessibility, TPE introduced additional features such as shelves, hooks, and mirrors inside toilet cubicles. These enhancements aim to provide greater convenience for passengers requiring stoma-changing areas.

Last year, Stalybridge Station implemented a fully accessible Changing Places toilet for travelers with mobility challenges. The facility includes an adult-sized changing bench for passengers requiring extra space.

Designed for those unable to use standard accessible toilets, the restroom features a ceiling hoist. A privacy screen and sufficient space for carers ensure dignity and comfort for passengers.

TPE continues prioritizing accessibility improvements across its railway network, enhancing travel experiences for all passengers. These ongoing efforts support individuals with medical conditions and mobility needs effectively.

Passengers and advocacy groups have welcomed these changes, praising TPE’s inclusive approach to railway accessibility. The company remains committed to developing better facilities for travelers with specialized requirements.
