The first two four-car trains were launched on Glasgow’s sole metro line, three years later than planned due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Custom-built with through passages to accommodate one of the world’s oldest metro lines with a 1220mm track gauge, the rounded trains measure 2.3m in width and 2.6m in height.

With 204 capacity, including 116 seated and 12 fold-down seats, they reach a maximum speed of 58 km/h with a starting acceleration of 1.3 m/s².

The aluminum-bodied rolling stock, equipped with Selectron control systems and ABB traction converters, was manufactured in the Swiss Altenrhein plant.

The contract for 17 trains and metro modernization was signed in 2016 with the Stadler-Ansaldo STS consortium, with the Swiss company’s share amounting to €75 million.

The launch dates for the remaining trains remain unknown.
