23.02.2025
Southeastern in the UK is set to introduce an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system at 42 railway stations. This update replaces the existing pay and display method starting on 24 February. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Southeastern’s New Parking System in the UK: What to Expect
Passengers can no longer pay for parking at station ticket offices, but other options remain. Cash, card, and digital payments will still be available at most locations for added convenience.

Alicia Andrews, Southeastern’s commercial director, emphasized that this transition simplifies station parking. The company continues investing in station upgrades to improve customer experience.
The new ANPR system recognizes vehicle number plates upon entry, significantly enhancing security measures. This update ensures every driver pays correctly and streamlines station parking operations.
Why Southeastern in the UK is Upgrading to ANPR?
Officials state the new system will provide valuable data on parking usage across stations. This information helps optimize space management, making parking more efficient for passengers.
Customers can pay using station signage, the official app, or the Southeastern website. No ticket is required if a vehicle stays less than 20 minutes for pick-ups or drop-offs.
Blue Badge holders must register their vehicles beforehand to continue parking for free. A new taxi portal will also be introduced for drivers needing designated access.
Ms. Andrews highlighted ANPR’s popularity among customers due to its simplicity and efficiency. Many parking providers already use this technology, making it familiar to frequent travelers.
Among the stations affected by these changes are Ashford International, Dartford, and Hastings. Paddock Wood and Stonegate will also transition to the new system in February.
