Each session starts promptly at 8:00 a.m., and lunch will be provided on-site. All classes are free and open to firefighters, law enforcement, and other emergency teams across the region.

Hands-On Learning Through Rail Emergency Training

The event includes access to the Norfolk Southern Safety Train, which will be stationed at the training facility. This platform provides real-world practice using tank cars and railroad equipment.

Course modules include rail tank car anatomy, tank truck incidents, chlorine emergencies, leak control methods, and passenger train response procedures. Instructors will deliver practical guidance with real equipment and scenarios.

Rail Emergency Training Enhances Regional Readiness

Mike Stephenson, New Jersey coordinator for TRANSCAER, emphasized the importance of preparing local responders. He said the goal is to enhance community safety and response effectiveness.

Additional sessions will cover railroad safety, emergency procedures, reading rail documents, identifying tank car components, and using the AskRail mobile app. These tools improve decision-making during critical incidents.

By the end of the week, every attendee will leave better equipped to manage complex rail emergencies. This rail emergency training reflects the county’s commitment to community preparedness and safety leadership.
