Skoda Group Introduces Smart Depot Digital Ecosystem at InnoTrans 2024
The Smart Depot digital ecosystem by Skoda Group took center stage at InnoTrans 2024, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
This advanced system is designed to automate urban rail transport, enhancing reliability, safety, and overall efficiency. It includes technologies that enable unmanned tram operations within depots, significantly improving service quality.

The Smart Depot digital ecosystem is currently undergoing trials in Tampere. There, the Smart Artic X34 tram, equipped with automatic driving systems and obstacle detection, performs tasks autonomously. A mobile application is used for control, making operations smoother and increasing safety on the roads.
Skoda Group Expands Tram Capacity with New Orders
At InnoTrans 2024, Skoda Group signed a deal with TRO to modernize trams. They ordered 11 additional sections to expand the capacity of 11 Smart Artic X34 trams.
This upgrade boosts each tram’s capacity from 264 to 345 passengers. The agreement is a major step forward for Skoda Group, which continues to grow its presence in the global market.

In addition, base models of the Smart Artic X34 were ordered in 2017 and 2022. Today, 21 trams are already in operation. The Smart Depot digital ecosystem, developed by Skoda Group, continues to show its value by improving urban rail services.
