The Red Dot Award is one of the most significant design awards in the world, making this achievement particularly noteworthy.
The ForCity Smart Bonn trams, equipped with two driver cabins, have become an integral part of the fleet of SWB, the company responsible for public transport in Bonn.
Škoda Group won the contract to supply 26 trams and spare parts in December 2019. The first model was officially presented to the public in March 2023.
The exterior design of the tram deserves special attention, as it harmoniously fits into the historical appearance of Bonn.
In addition to its aesthetic appeal, the ForCity Smart Bonn trams offer high levels of safety and comfort.
The interior spaces are equipped with wooden seats with removable soft upholstery, ensuring ease of maintenance and durability.
The trams also fully comply with modern accessibility requirements for passengers with limited mobility.
Wide doors with LED lighting and spacious multifunctional areas for wheelchairs and strollers make journeys convenient and comfortable for all passenger categories.
The driver’s cabin is designed according to the latest ergonomic and safety standards, improving working conditions and increasing road safety.
In 2024, besides Škoda Group, Alstom and the Danish railways were also awarded the Red Dot Award for the outstanding design of the IC5 Coradia Stream train.

These awards emphasize the importance and relevance of innovative solutions in transportation and demonstrate the commitment of leading companies to improving the design and functionality of their products.
Thus, winning the Red Dot Award 2024 for the ForCity Smart Bonn tram reflects the high level of craftsmanship and creativity of the Škoda Group team and underscores the significance of quality design in modern public transportation.
