Skoda Group has commenced the assembly of new metro trains at its factory in Ostrava, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The Czech manufacturer has announced that the first welded car bodies for the new rolling stock are already complete. The trains are expected to be put into operation in 2026.

The contract for supplying eight four-car trains, valued at 65 million euros, was signed with Sofia Metro EAD last summer.

These trains will serve lines 1, 2, and 4 of the metro system.

The new trains will be equipped with three-phase asynchronous motors with energy recovery capability, as well as a safety system with automatic speed control.

The design speed will be 90 km/h.
