Singapore Rail Test Centre Opens Second Phase
01.04.2025
Singapore launched the Singapore Rail Test Centre with a new phase in Tuas. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) completed the project on 50 hectares. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Experts at the centre actively test trains and systems for metro lines. Equipment checks rolling stock, signalling, and movement control on new tracks.

Construction kicked off in 2021 and progressed through two stages. The first wrapped up in November 2023, unveiling a 2.8-kilometre track section.
Trains there hit 100 km/h to evaluate traction and braking performance. The track supports power from third rails and overhead lines.
They already tested trains for the Circle Line, yielding solid results. The second phase introduced two more sections for tougher challenges.
One 2.8-kilometre section features an S-shaped segment for comprehensive tests. A 3-kilometre loop with a 30‰ incline assesses equipment reliability.
The loop accumulates mileage and checks rolling stock durability over time. Thus, the centre runs trials without interruptions or delays.
Singapore Rail Test Centre Boosts Innovation
The centre’s opening lets LTA ditch overseas testing facilities. Now, the authority independently tests equipment without using metro lines.
This move strengthens Singapore’s role in advancing transport technology. Plus, the centre speeds up the rollout of rail system upgrades.
Top-notch equipment and smart design make the centre a regional leader. Experts believe it enhances safety and transport quality.
Singapore Rail Test Centre Draws Experts
The project already caught the eye of global specialists, showing clear success. Singapore sets industry standards with initiatives like this.
LTA plans to expand the test site’s capabilities for future tasks. So, the country solidifies its lead in transport innovation.
