Singapore Launches Construction of Phase 2 of Cross Island Line: $443 Million for Tunnels and Electrical Supply
19.08.2024
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore has awarded two contracts worth SGD 443 million for Phase 2 of the Cross Island Line (CRL2), this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
These contracts include the final civil contract and a separate contract for the CRL electrical supply system.
The civil contract for the design and construction of tunnels between Maju (CR16) and Clementi (CR17) stations has been awarded to Sinohydro Corporation Limited, Singapore branch.
The contract amount is approximately SGD 199 million (USD 147.1 million). This contract completes the appointment of contractors for all nine civil contracts of CRL2.
The contract includes the construction of twin bored tunnels, each 1.4 km in length. These tunnels will be dug under significant infrastructure, including the Sungei Ulu Pandan canal.
The soils in the area mainly consist of hard sedimentary rocks, and a slurry shield machine will be used to bore through them. Real-time monitoring and safety measures will be implemented during construction.
LTA and the contractors will closely monitor the work to ensure ground stability and minimize impact on adjacent properties.
Work is set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024, with passenger services on Phase 2 of the CRL expected to start in 2032.
Sinohydro Corporation Limited has previously constructed the Napier station on the Thomson-East Coast Line and is involved in the construction of the CRL Phase 1 Pasir Ris East station.
The company is also involved in the CRL Phase 2 Clementi station project through a joint venture.
The Siemens Mobility and Concord Corporation consortium has been awarded the contract for designing and installing the electrical supply system for the CRL, worth SGD 400 million (USD 295.8 million).
The contract includes the installation of 66 kV and 22 kV AC systems, as well as a 1500 V DC traction power supply system to meet the high power requirements of the CRL.
Siemens Mobility has already completed the electrical supply for the Downtown Line (DTL) and is currently working on systems for Downtown Line 3 Extension (DTL3e), Circle Line 6 (CCL6), North East Line Extension (NELe), and Jurong Region Line (JRL).
Concord Corporation is also a partner with Siemens Mobility on the JRL electrical supply system and has previously worked on the electrical supply for the Circle Line and upgrades on the North-South and East-West lines.
Phase 2 of the Cross Island Line will feature 15 km of track with six new underground stations, complementing the first phase of 29 km with 12 stations.
Research is currently underway for Phase 3 of the CRL.
