Signal Failure in Montreal Disrupts Commuter Rail Service
13.05.2025
A major signal failure in Montreal has caused widespread commuter rail delays and cancellations, significantly affecting Tuesday morning travel across the city’s busiest lines. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Exo reported that trains on the 12-Saint-Jérôme line are now ending at Montreal West station, while those on the 11-Vaudreuil/Hudson and 14-Candiac lines are terminating at Vendôme.

Additionally, several services between Lucien-L’Allier and Vendôme have been suspended entirely, disrupting schedules and increasing passenger load at key stations.
To mitigate the impact, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is honoring exo train tickets at three Metro stations: Vendôme, de la Concorde, and Parc. Riders can also board the STM’s 105 bus from Montreal West using their original train fare.
While technicians are currently working to resolve the signal issue, exo has not provided an estimated time for restoration of normal operations. Passengers are urged to follow updates and plan extra travel time.
Montreal Train Disruptions Impact Key Transfer Points
Montreal’s Lucien-L’Allier station functions as a central hub, so any disruption there affects multiple lines and regional connectivity. Congestion at Vendôme and Montreal West remains high throughout the day.
To ease the strain, transit agencies are coordinating closely to maintain limited mobility for affected commuters during peak hours.
Alternative Routes Support Montreal Commuters Amid Delays
With no clear resolution timeline, exo encourages riders to consider Metro alternatives and use STM services whenever possible. All updates will be shared through official channels as the situation evolves.
The signal failure highlights the need for infrastructure resilience in Montreal’s transit system. In the meantime, passengers are advised to remain flexible and alert for service advisories.
