Shunting Yard: Locomotive Shunting Control System
24.06.2024
Israeli company Rail Vision is actively expanding the supply of its innovative obstacle detection systems in the U.S., demonstrating successes in the field of railway technology, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

In June, the company completed the installation of pilot samples of its Shunting Yard system for Loram, an infrastructure maintenance company, and an unnamed freight carrier.
TECHMON – a remote monitoring and control system for trains and trams
This system is specifically designed for shunting locomotives and is capable of detecting obstacles and switch positions at distances of up to 200 meters under any weather conditions and at any time of day.
One of the key features of Shunting Yard is its ability to monitor areas with poor visibility during the coupling of the locomotive to the train.
This is achieved through the use of optical and infrared cameras, which can detect and classify obstructions using artificial intelligence.
The system then notifies the driver or remote operator of the presence of obstacles, significantly enhancing the safety and efficiency of shunting operations.
In April of this year, Rail Vision announced the receipt of another significant order for the installation of the Shunting Yard system, worth $5 million, from another unnamed American railroad leasing company.
This order is an important step in expanding the company’s presence in the American market and indicates a high evaluation of its technologies.
Additionally, in May, Rail Vision patented not only the Shunting Yard system but also the Main Line system in the U.S., underscoring the company’s commitment to protecting its innovations and strengthening its position in the international market.
Rail Vision’s systems play a crucial role in enhancing the safety and efficiency of railway operations.
Their implementation significantly reduces the risk of accidents and incidents related to collisions and incorrect switch positions.
This is especially relevant in conditions of intensive use of railway infrastructure, where each mistake can lead to serious consequences.

With the growing number of orders and successful pilot projects, Rail Vision continues to strengthen its position as a leading provider of advanced technologies for the railway industry.
The company plans to further develop its solutions, integrating new capabilities and improving existing technologies to ensure maximum safety and efficiency in railway operations worldwide.
