Sekisui Opens Railroad Tie Manufacturing Plant in the Netherlands

Japanese urban infrastructure company Sekisui Chemicals has announced the opening of its synthetic railroad tie manufacturing facility in Roermond, Netherlands.

Development of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor

The Roermond plant showcases Sekisui’s manufacturing achievements as these ties were previously exclusively produced in Japan but will now have better access to European markets.

Sekisui plans to produce 100,000 fiber-reinforced polyurethane railroad ties annually at the European manufacturing site, with a total investment of 50 million euros ($52.8 million), doubling its overall production capacity.

The construction process for the 4,400-square-foot facility began in 2020 and was completed earlier this year.

Mr. Koji Yamaguchi, Managing Director of Sekisui Chemicals’ German subsidiary, stated, “Europe has become a significant market, and increased demand is expected, particularly from major railway companies in Germany and the UK.»
