Scottish Greens MSP Patrick Harvie called on ScotRail to ensure a safe and affordable way home for festivalgoers. At last year’s event, many people were left without transportation after the final show, creating dangerous situations in Glasgow’s east end.

The three-day music festival returns next month, with global stars such as 50 Cent, Fontaines D.C., and Biffy Clyro performing. Local favorites Big Miz and Hayley Zalazzi will also play at Glasgow Green.

ScotRail Criticized for Failing to Support TRNSMT Transport Needs

Harvie emphasized that reliable late-night trains are essential for safety. He said previous festivals saw entire areas become blocked, forcing attendees to wait hours for taxis or walk home in the dark.

Last year, ScotRail announced emergency-only services on the final night. Many were shocked when told to find alternative ways home, with some young fans missing key performances due to early departures.

One parent said her 16-year-old son had to leave by 8:30 p.m., missing the headliners. Another traveler from Edinburgh described the situation as “shocking” and frustrating.

ScotRail Urged to Balance Safety, Access, and Affordability

Improved train schedules could offer a safer, cheaper, and greener option for thousands. Harvie believes that late trains are a basic service for major city events, and ScotRail has the means to provide them.

Meanwhile, organizers dropped Irish rap group Kneecap from the lineup due to safety concerns. Police warned the group’s appearance would require a large-scale operation, citing recent controversies and legal issues involving one of the members.

Kneecap later confirmed their withdrawal in a public statement, referencing police concerns. The decision aims to prevent risks and maintain security for all TRNSMT attendees.

ScotRail remains under scrutiny as preparations continue, with both fans and politicians calling for accountability and action to avoid a repeat of last year’s transport failure.
