The railway operator signed a new agreement covering all types of repairs and technical support for rolling stock.

ScotRail invests in digitalization and infrastructure

The contract includes the integration of the HMAX digital platform to accelerate diagnostics and data management. Since 2015, Hitachi has supplied Class 385 trains, which began operation in 2018.

Hitachi invested $37.02 million in upgrading the Craigentinny depot and training technical staff. The refurbished depot, located in northeastern Edinburgh, is the oldest in the UK.

ScotRail improves reliability and environmental performance

ScotRail trains are 4.5 times more reliable than the UK national average. Passenger traffic between Edinburgh and Glasgow increased by 5 percent in 2024.

Since 2019, ridership on these electric trains has grown by 2 percent. Running Class 385 trains on the Glasgow–Edinburgh route reduces CO₂ emissions by 82 percent compared to diesel trains.

The contract with Hitachi strengthens strategic cooperation and sets new standards in rail transport. ScotRail prioritizes digitalization and sustainability, relying on proven technologies.
