Repair work and safety checks continue nationwide after 24 hours of rain in some areas led to severe flooding on much of the rail network.

ScotRail stated that flooding remains a recurring issue across extensive parts of Scotland, especially in the north, with water levels still rising.

Extreme weather also left many trains and personnel stranded due to emergency cancellations and speed restrictions.

The rail operator expressed optimism for a return to normal service early in the week, but Network Rail’s safety teams have to wait for floodwaters to recede to inspect bridges.

The greatest risk exists on the Highland mainline and in Perthshire areas, where floodwaters remain high.
