Savage Wellington Transload Terminal Streamlines Energy Logistics

Savage announced the development of its new transload terminal near Wellington, Utah. This facility will efficiently transfer Uinta Basin crude oil from trucks into heated storage tanks. From there, the oil moves into rail cars via dual loops for transportation to North American refineries.

Governor Spencer Cox emphasized the terminal’s role in boosting Utah’s economy and energy independence. “This project supports rural communities, strengthens energy security, and expands producers’ market access,” said Cox.

Savage Infrastructure President Jason Ray described the terminal as a cost-effective solution, replacing long-haul trucking with efficient rail logistics. This development ensures a competitive edge for producers and refineries alike.

Economic Impact of the Savage Wellington Transload Terminal

Strategically located, the terminal connects to Union Pacific and BNSF railroads, offering nationwide market access. Savage Vice President Phillip Hoskins highlighted the completion of permits and design, marking progress in regional energy infrastructure.

As part of the Savage Transload Network, the terminal aligns with the Utah Inland Port Authority’s Castle Country Project Area objectives. These include sustainable development and enhanced energy access in Carbon and Emery Counties.

Ben Hart, executive director of the Utah Inland Port Authority, praised the project: “This terminal fosters rural economic growth while advancing Utah’s logistics capabilities.”

Rikki Hrenko-Browning of the Utah Petroleum Association described the terminal as key to unlocking the Uinta Basin’s export market potential. “This project paves the way for further investments in energy infrastructure,” she stated.

Savage’s purchase of 277 acres for industrial use reflects a long-term commitment to Utah’s energy sector. This terminal ensures producers can meet growing demand efficiently, fostering regional and national energy expansion.
