Developed by Axon, the VR system simulates real-life environments where officers assess risks and practice using Tasers. Therefore, it allows technical skill development without live rounds. In addition, the program reduces training time and enhances safety.
How police training with virtual reality revolutionizes RTD-Denver?
Instead of participating in eight to ten full-shift live training sessions annually, the officers conduct 10–20 minute modules. In the meantime, the VEs’ modules can be scheduled during regular duties, allowing flexibility and convenience in training.

To pass, officers must achieve a score of at least 80%. Nearly half of RTD’s 100 transit police officers have already completed the program, demonstrating strong adoption and confidence in the new technology.
Benefits and future outlook for RTD-Denver training
The VR system offers over 1,000 routine training sessions annually, with officers receiving repeated practice in complexly simulated scenarios. But contrary to the traditional techniques, the system is transportable, economical, and faster to deploy.
Officials observe that the program enhances technical proficiency as well as decision-making abilities. Hence, RTD-Denver’s investment represents an important stride toward police training modernization and the establishment of safer environments for officers as well as the public.
