Strategically located at the junction of Interstates 88 and 39, and near major rail lines operated by BNSF Railway and Union Pacific, the facility is served by Burlington Junction Railway (BJRY). This positioning offers industries of all sizes direct rail access and efficient freight connections.
Funding and future impact of the Rochelle Intermodal Transload Center
Since opening in 2020 through a joint effort with the Greater Rochelle Economic Development Corporation, the center has handled 1,000 railcars and staged hundreds of shipping containers for multiple customers. Demand for rail-to-truck services and third-party logistics has grown rapidly.
The Illinois Department of Transportation is investing $4.8 million through its freight-rail program to support the expansion. This funding will enhance capacity, attract new businesses, and reinforce Rochelle’s role as a logistics powerhouse in the Midwest.
BJRY’s corporate development principal, Peter Hoth, emphasized that continued growth depends on strong partnerships with customers and Class I railroads. Because the expansion will improve operations, it is expected to benefit both local companies and national freight networks.
