01.12.2023
The Czech private railway operator plans to connect Prague to Chop via the Chirna-nad-Tisou border crossing in Slovakia with a new night line, strengthening rail connections between Central Europe and Ukraine, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The 37-kilometer standard route will extend from the border to Chop, then onward to Mukachevo in Ukraine.

Initial service will feature a three-car train with 140 passengers, collaborating with Ukrainian Railways due to RegioJet’s lack of a license in Ukraine.
Future plans include linking Ukraine to other Central European capitals, such as the Vienna-Chop route via Budapest and the Záhony border crossing in Hungary.
RegioJet is also considering expanding the rail connection to Berlin through the Przemyśl border crossing in Poland, contingent on additional infrastructure investments.
The company expresses readiness to invest in enhancing Ukraine’s rail infrastructure, including electrifying the Chop-Mukachevo line with a 1435mm gauge and considering extending this gauge from Chop to Uzhgorod to serve Hungary.
In summary, RegioJet’s expansion in Ukraine aims not only to develop rail infrastructure but also to bolster communication links between Ukraine and Central European countries.
