The most worn out freight cars in the total fleet in Ukraine as of January 1, 2022 are refrigerators, hopper-dosers and dump cars, reports Railway Supply magazine.

Refrigerators, hopper-dosers and dump cars

Refrigerators, cement cars, grain cars, dump cars and mineral car owned by JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, as well as privately owned refrigerators and hoppers (but there are only up to 100 units) are 100% worn out, reports Railway Supply magazine with reference to Railinsider

The hopper-dispensers used in the maintenance and repair of the track are worn out by 98%. This is the oldest type of rolling stock, which, on average, has already been in operation twice as long as the standard period – more than 44 years, compared with 25 years provided by the manufacturer.

Another leaders are dump cars. They are worn out by an average of 98%. Moreover, the picture is approximately identical for both UZ cars and rolling stock of other owners.

Depreciation at the level of more than 95% also has universal platforms and pellet carriers. At the same time, the “youngest” cars in the general fleet of Ukraine are grain carriers and gondola cars.

They are worn out by 67% and 69% respectively. Such indicators were achieved mainly due to the renewal of the rolling stock by private owners. In the UZ fleet, almost all types of cars are worn out by 94–100%.  Gondola cars are 83% worn out.
