15.10.2023
In September 2023, the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) commenced the reconstruction of a double-track mainline leading from Budapest to the Austrian border, this is reported by the railway transport news portal, Railway Supply.
The decision to expedite the work on the 29-kilometer section from Bátorbad and Szarliget, the busiest line in Hungary, previously scheduled for 2024, came following speed restrictions.

The reconstruction is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
The project involves strengthening the earthworks, laying 950 rail tracks each 120 meters in length, replacing 96,000 concrete sleepers, and renewing 100,000 tons of ballast.
One of the two tracks will be closed until October 26, after which rail traffic will be suspended until the completion of the work.
