Work crews will operate between Port Glasgow and Gourock, as well as Wemyss Bay, to execute critical railway improvements. Engineers will install new points at Wemyss Bay Junction, enhancing track efficiency near Port Glasgow station.

In Greenock, teams will replace lineside walls between Cartsdyke and Greenock Central to strengthen railway stability. Additionally, the timber deck supporting tracks on a Sinclair Street bridge will be completely refurbished.

Enhancing Infrastructure: Tunnel Repairs and Future Work

At Newton Street tunnel, which spans over a mile, workers will conduct extensive stonework repairs and waterproofing. The engineering team will focus on strengthening the tunnel’s structure to ensure long-term operational safety.

Due to the complexity of the upgrades, additional work will continue during the following weekend. Engineers will use this time to finalize critical improvements and ensure all infrastructure enhancements meet required standards.

Ross Moran, Network Rail Scotland route director, emphasized the significance of these essential railway improvements. He stated that these upgrades will enhance service reliability and ensure a better experience for passengers.

“Our engineers will work tirelessly to complete projects efficiently, minimizing disruption for customers,” Moran confirmed. He also expressed gratitude for passengers’ patience as Network Rail delivers these vital infrastructure enhancements.

Mark Ilderton, ScotRail’s service delivery director, reinforced the long-term benefits these investments will bring. He emphasized that the improvements will create a more dependable and resilient railway network for all passengers.
