Rail Transport Modernization in Croatia: €24 Million Investment from EUROFIMA

The Croatian operator HŽPP secured €24 million from EUROFIMA for rail transport modernization and infrastructure upgrades. This investment will enhance passenger services and improve the efficiency of regional rail networks. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Funding and Goals of the Rail Transport Modernization Project
The agreement with EUROFIMA provides 15-year financing, split into two primary tranches. The first tranche, €10 million, will be used to purchase eight modern 6112-class electric trains manufactured by Koncar. The second tranche of €14 million will fund depot upgrades in key cities, including Koprivnica, Osijek, Pula, Split, Varaždin, Vinkovci, and Solin.

This modernization project is expected to significantly improve the quality and reliability of Croatia’s rail services. Additionally, new trains will adhere to current standards for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Previous Investments in Rail Transport Development
Previously, the European Investment Bank allocated €400 million to Croatia for rail infrastructure development. Part of these funds was used to acquire six diesel-electric trains and eight hybrid trains with combined power sources.
