Purple Line Grants Support Small Businesses During Construction
07.05.2025
The Purple Line construction prompted Maryland’s transportation officials to award $1 million in grants to small businesses affected by ongoing infrastructure work along the corridor. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

More than 450 businesses applied for this initial round of grants. Awards ranged from $1,000 to $40,000, depending on proximity to the Purple Line construction and whether the business was located in a priority development zone.

MDOT designed this four-year, $4 million program to support businesses experiencing disruptions tied to the transit project. The next application window opens on June 2 and closes on June 27.
Currently, 76% of the Purple Line project has been completed. Over 80,000 feet of track are installed, and all 21 future stations are actively under construction across Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.
Once finished, the Purple Line will span 16 miles from Bethesda to New Carrollton. It will serve as a vital link between major suburbs outside Washington, D.C., reducing travel time and easing congestion.
Purple Line Progress Reaches Critical Milestone
Maryland’s investment strategy aims to balance infrastructure progress with economic support. Small businesses near the Purple Line route have faced access issues and reduced foot traffic, making these grants a financial lifeline.
The construction phase has accelerated in recent months. MDOT continues to coordinate closely with local communities to reduce disruption while maintaining the project’s momentum.
Next Phase of Purple Line Grant Funding Opens in June
With $3 million still available, MDOT will roll out additional grants in future phases. Local business owners are encouraged to prepare applications as soon as the next round opens.
Maryland’s dual commitment to transit growth and economic inclusion shows how public investment can drive long-term regional resilience. The Purple Line project continues to be a cornerstone of that vision.
