Enhanced Rail Access for Purandar International Airport

A dedicated railway link between Rajewadi station and Purandar International Airport is set to improve connectivity. This initiative is part of the Integrated Transport Plan, designed to optimize multi-modal transit systems across Pune’s metropolitan region.

The project spans 2,550 square kilometers, covering Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and surrounding areas. With a budget of ₹1.26 lakh crore, the plan introduces metro expansions, upgraded bus networks, and better railway infrastructure. The goal is to modernize urban mobility while reducing congestion.

Strategic Rail and Road Upgrades for Airport Transit

Two railway stations, Jejuri and Rajewadi, are located near the airport, with Rajewadi being the closest. Authorities propose constructing a railway spur from Rajewadi, ensuring direct rail access to passengers and streamlining airport transit.

Additionally, the Pune-Lonavala railway route will be expanded to increase capacity and ease traffic. Authorities plan to construct a railway bypass between Talegaon and Daund in two phases. The first phase introduces a feeder railway from Talegaon to Uruli Kanchan via Shikrapur, while the second phase extends this link to Daund.

Phursungi railway station is also set for relocation to Shindawane, where it will be transformed into a passenger terminal. These improvements aim to optimize train services, making airport access more efficient for commuters.

Improved Road Infrastructure for Smooth Connectivity

Beyond railway expansions, officials are prioritizing road infrastructure enhancements for Purandar International Airport. Several key routes will be modernized to accommodate growing passenger traffic and ensure smooth transit.

Planned road upgrades include expansions of Hadapsar-Saswad via Dive Ghat, Saswad-Bopdev Road, Uruli Kanchan-Jejuri Road, and Saswad-Kapurhol-Bhor Road. The Khed-Shivapur-Saswad link road will also be upgraded to facilitate better airport access. These road developments aim to reduce travel time while supporting regional mobility.

Integrated Transport Strategy for Future Growth

The Integrated Transport Plan focuses on creating a well-connected urban transit system through synchronized railway and road developments. Enhanced metro services and bus networks will complement these infrastructure improvements, ensuring efficient connectivity.

With these strategic investments, Pune’s transportation network is set to improve significantly, reducing congestion and providing smoother access to the airport. These efforts will benefit passengers, businesses, and the region’s economic growth, strengthening Pune’s position as a key transit hub.
