Preparations for creating the control system have already begun, and prototype testing is expected in 2025 at the Franowo depot.

The main goal of the project is to implement software with artificial intelligence elements that will recognize obstacles along the tram’s route.

The system will be tested in real conditions on a 14 km urban network and in a virtual environment, allowing it to be evaluated in various operational scenarios.

The Łukasiewicz Institute is developing transport control algorithms and a driver assistance system that will ensure precise stops at platforms, maintain speed, and respond to other road users.

This technology will make urban transport safer and more convenient for passengers.

The project is funded under the “Autonomous Transport” program, implemented by a consortium of five institutes from the Łukasiewicz Research Center.

The official cooperation agreement was signed on September 16, 2024, marking a new stage in the development of Poznań’s urban transport system.
