Pop-Up Metro Partnership Drives Rail Innovation
03.03.2025
Railroad Development Corp partners with TDI Greenway to expand pop-up metro initiatives. This deal, announced February 25, strengthens rail innovation globally. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

RDC now owns a 50% stake in TDI Greenway, merging its Pop-Up Metro business. However, both brands keep separate identities despite uniting their efforts.
Pop-Up Metro Expands North American Reach
Pop-Up Metro targets affordable passenger services in North America, using old freight tracks. Additionally, it teams up with TDI Greenway for rapid light rail deployment.

Henry Posner III, RDC Chairman, and CFO John Hensler join TDI’s board. Sam Wauchope, TDI Greenway’s chairman, directs the group with fresh enthusiasm.
“This alliance with RDC marks a major advancement for TDI Greenway,” Wauchope declared proudly. “Pop-Up Metro offers a platform for growing trade into North America effectively.”
Pop-Up Metro Fuels Sustainable Transport Solutions
TDI Greenway creates the Revolution VLR railcar for less-used branch lines with efficiency. Moreover, it builds the Lync VLR tram and Orbit battery-powered road vehicle.
The company tested a diesel-battery hybrid RVLR, achieving strong outcomes recently. Meanwhile, Eversholt Rail ordered three pre-series battery railcars for upcoming tests.
“We negotiate with a key UK infrastructure fund to restore unused railway lines,” Wauchope said. “Network Rail helps us revive local community rail routes nationwide.”
Very light rail gains momentum, sparking excitement across the Atlantic for industry expansion. Thus, this partnership drives innovation and swift project rollouts on both sides.
Posner noted, “RDC thrives on partnerships, and this union boosts our global presence.” Combining efforts with TDI Greenway enhances capabilities for faster project completion.
RDC once backed Vivarail, which turned London Underground cars into multiple-units adeptly. But Vivarail faced administration in December 2022, stopping its UK projects.
FirstGroup’s Great Western Railway bought Vivarail’s battery train assets and FastCharge tech. Yet, this purchase left out projects with London Northwestern and others.
In 2021, Vivarail supplied two battery trainsets for a temporary rail demo in Pennsylvania. Plans for a 13 km route in Iowa City stalled in early 2025.
“We admire TDI’s innovation, especially the Revolution VLR vehicle, from afar,” Posner shared. “Together, we amplify strengths and speed up progress in this vibrant field.”
This partnership signals a bold leap forward for sustainable rail options worldwide. Consequently, it positions RDC and TDI Greenway as leaders in rail advancements.
