India is preparing to unveil a historic infrastructure project, as PM Modi is expected to inaugurate a new rail line connecting Aizawl to the national railway grid. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Final safety inspections are in progress, and after the Commissioner of Railway Safety grants approval, a formal request will be sent to the Prime Minister’s Office for inauguration.

Infrastructure Boost from New Rail Line in Northeast
Officials expect the new rail line to be officially dedicated later this year, in line with Modi’s push for better connectivity in remote parts of India.
Despite tough terrain, the Bairabi-Sairang rail link has successfully connected Mizoram’s capital to India’s broad-gauge network, fulfilling a long-standing regional demand.
Travelers will enjoy panoramic views along the Silchar-Aizawl route, which features lush hills, forests, and diverse cultural landmarks, rivalling Kashmir’s iconic Katra-Srinagar corridor.
This new corridor spans 51.38 kilometers and includes 48 tunnels totaling 12.853 km, 55 major bridges, 87 minor ones, five overbridges, and nine underpasses.
Among these, Bridge No. 196 rises to 104 meters, making it taller than the Qutub Minar by 42 meters and one of the highest in India’s railway history.
New Rail Line to Accelerate Trade and Employment
A Ministry of Railways official emphasized that the new rail line will significantly enhance mobility, support tourism, and streamline transport for local industries.
Because the line enables broader distribution of regional goods, officials expect it to boost trade and encourage job creation near new railway stations.
Originally launched by Modi on November 29, 2014, the Bairabi-Sairang railway project now stands as a strategic symbol of inclusive national development.
