The tests followed EN 50317 standards and were carried out on the Western line from Vienna to Salzburg and the Franz-Josefs railway. PJM collected real-time data using two measuring pantographs in a multiple traction setup.

Martin Joch, CEO of PJ Messtechnik GmbH, noted that the smooth transition to client projects confirms the company’s growing expertise. He emphasized that pantograph analysis is now a vital part of their portfolio.

Pantograph Testing Aligned with ISO Standards

In addition to pantograph evaluations, PJM tested wheelset torsional oscillations in February. Engineers used eight telemetry systems to track stress and strain in the rotating components.

These technical tests ensure long-term safety and performance. The approach allows PJM to provide comprehensive diagnostics and supports Austria’s goal of modernizing rail services.

Pantograph Innovation Supports ÖBB’s Double-Decker Fleet

The new KISS trains will serve ÖBB’s regional network. Designed for high passenger flow, they feature wide entrance areas, bike and stroller zones, and energy-efficient air conditioning systems using natural refrigerants.

PJM remains Austria’s only ISO/IEC 17025-accredited provider for pantograph testing. Its test areas include running dynamics, braking systems, fatigue strength, and aerodynamics.

The company also offers engineering services such as CAD design, FEM analysis, and MBS simulation. It holds certification from the AAR WABL Committee and leads in building instrumented wheelsets and autonomous rail monitoring tools.

With these integrated capabilities, PJM delivers high-precision testing that supports both vehicle performance and infrastructure reliability.
