More than 3,500 riders rated their experiences in the first quarter, giving Philadelphia’s SEPTA an average score of 3.5 out of 5. This result marks the highest in the authority’s history and signals progress despite funding challenges.

Safety remains a top priority. SEPTA Transit Police used data-driven deployment to cut serious crimes in seven of eight categories during the first six months of 2025. Fare enforcement actions rose by 27% compared to last year, reinforcing security.

Cleanliness scores improved through strategic hiring. The agency expanded its cleaning workforce to more than 700 employees and introduced mid-route “pit crews” and “heavy hit” teams, completing deep cleaning at 161 stations this year.

Ridership averaged over 768,000 daily trips in May 2025, up 7% from 2024. SEPTA boosted bus operator hiring by 43%, from 40 to 57 new operators monthly, easing staff shortages. Regional Rail on-time performance reached 87%, up from 81% in the prior schedule.

SEPTA plans continued investment in safety, reliability, and cleanliness to sustain record satisfaction levels and ensure consistent service improvements for riders throughout 2025 and beyond.
