PESA to Supply New Regio160 Electric Trains for Łódź Voivodeship: Transportation Enhancement and Environmental Benefits
29.08.2024
In February 2023, the authorities of Łódź Voivodeship signed a contract with PESA Bydgoszcz for the delivery of four Regio160 electric trains, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

These three-car trains are intended for regional passenger transport.
In August 2024, the voivodeship exercised the contract option and ordered an additional ten trains, totaling approximately 350 million PLN (about 80.9 million EUR).
Part of the funding, specifically 115 million PLN, will come from the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF).
The new rolling stock will be operated by the regional passenger transport operator Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna.
The Regio160 electric trains can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h and fully meet modern comfort and safety standards.

They are equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS), air conditioning, passenger information systems, and charging sockets for mobile devices.
Each train includes areas for passengers with limited mobility, spaces for families with children, and designated areas for transporting bicycles.
Additionally, free Wi-Fi is available on the trains. Each train can accommodate up to 350 passengers, including 160 seating places.
The new electric trains from PESA Bydgoszcz are expected to start operating in 2026.
Currently, Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna operates 39 electric trains manufactured by Stadler and Newag. Since 2010, this operator has been servicing routes between Łódź, the voivodeship’s administrative center, and other cities in the region.
The introduction of the new Regio160 trains will not only reduce travel time but also lower emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere.
In the long term, this may also lead to an expansion of the route network and improved transportation accessibility for the region.
These initiatives reflect Łódź Voivodeship’s commitment to modernizing its transportation infrastructure and enhancing service quality for passengers.
Improving transportation conditions is important for both local residents and tourists visiting the region.
The adoption of new technologies and the enhancement of environmental standards are priorities in the region’s transport policy, contributing to sustainable development and increasing the attractiveness of Łódź Voivodeship on the European map.
