Railways CEO Amir Ali Baloch explained that these wagons were developed in response to industry demand and manufactured entirely in Pakistan, benefiting the domestic economy.

So far, 250 units have entered service, and the full fleet of 850 wagons is expected by December 31. All remaining wagons will be rolled out in phases over the next several months.

Pakistan Railways Supports Local Manufacturing and Growth

By producing the wagons locally, Pakistan Railways promotes industrial self-reliance and reduces reliance on imports. This strategy also helps create jobs and transfer technical knowledge.

Project Director Ishaq Butt emphasized the broader goal of reducing cargo delays while making rail freight more efficient and sustainable compared to road transport.

Pakistan Railways Offers Cost-Effective Freight Solutions

To make rail more attractive for businesses, freight charges are kept lower than road transport rates. This policy encourages a modal shift and helps cut logistics costs.

The CEO confirmed that once infrastructure upgrades are completed, more advanced freight trains will be introduced to further optimize service nationwide.

With these strategic investments, Pakistan’s rail sector is evolving into a competitive, modern transport backbone. The initiative strengthens logistics and helps drive national economic progress.
