Operation of Hitachi Rail’s Sirio Trams

The operation of Sirio trams from Hitachi Rail has commenced in Turin, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.
The first three trams entered service today in this Italian city.
It is expected that the transport provider GTT will soon put the entire batch of 30 trams into operation, purchased for €63.4 million.

The second batch of 40 units of rolling stock is expected to be delivered to the customer from the manufacturer’s plant in Naples no later than 2024.
These five-section low-floor trams, measuring 28 meters in length, can accommodate 254 passengers (including 36 seating places) and can reach speeds of up to 60 km/h.
They are equipped with air conditioning and informational screens, have enlarged windows, and partially glazed roofs. The interior is adapted for passengers with reduced mobility.
Hitachi Rail and GTT signed a framework agreement for the supply of 70 new version Sirio trams with a 4.5-year warranty in May 2020.
Funding was provided by the Italian Ministry of Transport.
A subcontracting contract for brakes, doors, and climate control systems was signed with the German company Knorr-Bremse.
