In the United Kingdom, pilot operation of a container with a lift-up roof has commenced, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.

Container with Lift-up Roof

This container, featuring a tarpaulin-covered side, is equipped with a hydraulic mechanism for raising the roof during loading, enabling pallets with products to be positioned on two levels — from floor to ceiling.

The project was developed by the food product manufacturer Nestlé in collaboration with Oxford Rail Strategies, Bootle Containers, and Marine Container Test Services, commissioned by the supermarket chain Tesco.

Greenbrier has announced the election of Patrick J. Ottensmeyer to its board of directors

In cooperation with infrastructure operator Network Rail and carrier Direct Rail Services, the first test journey of the container loaded with pet food was conducted between Nestlé and Tesco terminals.

Based on trial results, Nestlé plans to refine the container’s design.

In 2020, the Swedish company Kiruna Wagon introduced a covered wagon with fully opening sides.
