11.09.2023
Norway opens its greenest freight terminal, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.
On August 29, 2023, the Norwegian Minister of Transport, Jon-Ivar Nygård, inaugurated the country’s greenest railway freight terminal located in Nygårdstangen.
In close collaboration with freight transport operators, Bane NOR, the head of Norway’s railway infrastructure, modernized the terminal and doubled its capacity.

Now, the environmentally friendly terminal has longer train parking tracks and larger cargo handling areas for more efficient operations.
The terminal is entirely served by electric freight trains.
From the terminal’s development stage, great emphasis was placed on environmental sustainability, from construction practices and materials used to the terminal’s ongoing activities.
Modernization of Constanta Port
The terminal is designed to operate emission-free. It exclusively employs electric locomotives, while all lifting equipment is electric and rechargeable.
Furthermore, the terminal provides electrical connections for refrigerated containers and powers the terminal building with solar panels.
The Bergen Freight Terminal in Nygårdstangen, located in the heart of the city at the Bergen station, is Norway’s second-largest railway freight terminal by transport volume. CargoNet, Onrail, and Axess Logistics provide services at the terminal.
