Federal funds will cover the project’s full cost, although the total amount remains undisclosed. The railroad must submit site plans and estimates to PUCO and the Ohio Rail Development Commission by August 26.

Ohio Backs Crossing Upgrade for CUOH in Coshocton

The Columbus & Ohio River Railroad (CUOH) will modernize its Clow Lane crossing with new lights and gates to improve visibility and warning times.

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio will contribute 75% of the $261,713 project cost through the State Grade Crossing Protection Fund, while CUOH will provide the remaining 25% and cover maintenance.

These enhancements reflect Ohio’s ongoing effort to improve safety at high-risk crossings. Authorities aim to reduce incidents by upgrading warning systems and working with both major and regional railroads.

So far, the collaboration between PUCO, ORDC, and private operators has delivered effective improvements across the state. Additional projects are expected in the coming years as funding becomes available.

As rail activity increases throughout Ohio, especially near urban and industrial zones, proactive safety upgrades will remain a top transportation priority.
