The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) warns of rising rail-road crossing accidents. Motorists must stay cautious, and NRZ pushes for safety daily. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Yesterday, NRZ issued an alert, noting a troubling increase in train-vehicle collisions recently. Two incidents on March 20 and 21 alarmed officials, prompting immediate action.

On March 20, a couple suffered injuries after a locomotive hit their car in Chiredzi. Their vehicle crossed the Chiredzi-Triangle Road, but they failed to spot the train.
Then, on March 21, a driver ignored the Amtec crossing stop in Gweru completely. An oncoming train struck the vehicle, yet fortunately, no one sustained injuries here.
NRZ insists all drivers halt at crossings, check for trains, and heed warning signals. The organization stresses that safety demands cooperation, so motorists must stay alert always.
Additionally, NRZ calls for strict adherence to traffic rules at crossings every time. This ensures protection for rail users and road travelers alike, reducing risks significantly.
Rail-road Crossing Accidents Spark Regional Action
Across the Southern African Development Community (SADC), railway firms tackle similar concerns actively. The Southern African Railway Association schedules October awareness weeks to cut crossing deaths.
These campaigns educate communities, and they aim to lower accident rates across the region. NRZ joins this effort, pushing for fewer fatalities and safer railway interactions annually.
Meanwhile, NRZ announced the arrest of three Bulawayo brothers for stealing railway gear. Police caught Francis, Givemore, and James Gwaringa at a Gweru roadblock recently.
Officers searched their car and discovered seven wagon leaf springs worth $2,310 USD. They also found a gas tank and cutting torch, linking them to vandalism.
NRZ vows to fight infrastructure theft, emphasizing that stolen parts endanger train safety. The organization warns vandals, and it promises strict measures to protect operations continually.
Combating Theft to Prevent Rail-road Crossing Accidents
Authorities encourage citizens to report suspicious railway theft activities to police promptly. This collaboration helps curb the rising threat and keeps rail systems secure effectively.
The surge in crossing incidents demands urgent action from drivers and officials alike. NRZ remains committed, and it pushes for safety and accountability across Zimbabwe daily.
Experts say vigilance at crossings prevents tragedies, so NRZ reinforces this message consistently. With community support, the railway aims to reduce incidents and enhance public trust significantly.
